Free Thinker is definitely on the stiffer end. Tons of pop but you need to work for the presses. Its also kind of narrow so its super quick edge to edge. New Process, Custom, or Blossom are closer in ride to your Process.

Anyone got any unique Burton gear they LOVE? I'm set on both hard and soft goods, but I'm sitting on a good chunk of warranty credit.

Offhand nothing in the board line speaks to me. I liked the Cartel X I demoed, but not enough to add non-NOW/Jones bindings. Might pick up some straps / ratchets to upgrade those NOW/Jones bindings.

I'll probably pick up a Riglet setup for the near-toddler, she should be stable upright by end of season.

For the rest, torn between:

• Sitting on it until I need new gear-- while inflation slowly eats away at it and I potentially forget about it lol
• Picking up a crap ton of practical basics (base layers, socks, snowboard tool, etc.)
• Spending it frivolously on something like a Mystery deck or Step-On Split bindings lmao.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm looking at getting my little man a snowboard setup this season as well - sounds like he's a little older than yours (14 months and walking). I noticed the Riglet is 90cm and the After School Special comes in 80cm and 90cm. Any specific reason you're going for the Riglet over the After School Special?

FWIW I was planning on getting the handlebar accessory as well but can't decide which board to start him on.

I have the riglet- it doesn’t have metal edges or a real base (it’s just plastic) - the after school does

The riglet is great to drag around indoors on carpet, wood etc…which is great if you don’t have access to snow, otherwise get the after school

Grill master prob a better match than freethinker if you are doing presses. I like the FT though, a lot of pop

They are all really close in overall stiffness. Custom felt the softest of the 3 (Custom, FT, Blossom). The Blossom is interesting flex wise because it feels stiff but still was actually the easiest to press for me. Might be the sizes I rode, 55 Blossom, 56 Custom, 57 FT....im 5'11" 175lbs size 10 boot. Out of those three you could probably just pick which graphic you like the most lol.

Another board to consider is the 3D daily driver. I only have one day on mine but it fits into that all mountain board that can ride park well category. Similar camber profile and side cut to my Skeleton Key. And I agree Burton needs to re-lease the SK Twin...basically a perfect board that I kick myself for not buying when it came out.

We've got a sled hill right down the street so it'll be used on snow. I do wonder if metal edges are too much for a 1-2 year old.

No chance a 1 or 2 year old is going to be driving edges. At that point I expect I'll just be trying to get my daughter to look where she wants to go and be comfortable with the sensation of sliding standing up.

Yea, I don't think he'll be driving edges for awhile. Since the After School Special has metal edges, I'm leaning towards that over the Riglet. It seems like something he can grow into over time and it's offered in a 10cm shorter deck so it should fit him better. I still haven't decided which one, though.

Was your reasoning on the Riglet to start is that it'll mostly be used indoors?

you'll be fine with the after school special if you have snow a lot.

the riglet really is meant to be used inside, ive taken it out a few times in snow and it's not that great, only fresh soft snow works... if it's wet or hardpack the Afterschool will be great. When your child starts to balance themselves up, the riglet will not act like a snowboard too when they heel/toe, so you'll end up buying an afterschool regardless

you can use the after school indoors, there's a frictionless cover Burton sells you can put over it. The metal edges aren't all that sharp on the afterschool so I wouldn't worry about your baby cutting themselves on it
