Captians log...

They’ll put you in a better mood when you shred ‘em, so pull up a chair and talk about ‘em

I had to work and missed the big storm yesterday but got an unexpected morning to myself today. I took advantage of the nice soft corduroy and rode the Burton Pow Wrench for a bit which was really fun until it got a little choppy so I switched to the FA. Nice morning all around.

I rode less than an hour, exclusively on a tow rope, and only got about ~1500 ft of vert, but I got on board this season. Hit Kingvale park while I was in the Sierra foothills with my family. Sweet little setup gotta say. Forgot how rough tow ropes are on the hands / forearms, but it was a cool vibe. I took 19 laps and only had to take my back binding off twice, once because the tow rope got overloaded and once because I swapped boards.

Spent the entire time basically flopping around because I was getting my legs back under me and I've spent the past 11 months at sea level. Dropping ollie on cylinders my first run of the season was... bracing. Starting getting into a groove towards the end but of course by then it was time to leave haha. Hoping I can get back out on some proper time on snow in March or April.

Went snowshoeing / Driftboarding with the family afterwards, my 3-month-old goober screamed bloody murder getting ready in the parking lot and then of course knocked the fuck out the moment my wife and I hit trail lol.

On the opposite note of the above, bothering to go to whitefish was a mistake. Should have listened. I feel bad for locals, both riders and otherwise.

Got about 2 hours of riding in this weekend before the temps went over 40 and what's left of our snow turned to slow wet slop. Fukked up to think that it's Mid February in Wisconsin and it's looking like winter is pretty much over with the forecast being mostly above freezing temps and dry. Looks like I'm not getting a single pow day this year.

Not to get too dramatic, but I'm not sure I can continue to put this much mental/emotional/monetary investment into this when winter continually barely shows up and I'm not even getting to ride the few days I can escape.

I'd love to. My kiddo situation has me tethered here without much flexibility. The amount of hoops I'd have to jump through with arrangements and the costs of travel (even if budgeted) is really only worth it if I know I'm going to get something really worthwhile. And at the end of the day, even if I want to, I find I'm just not selfish enough to spend a lot myself, when I could spend it on things with my kids. My snowboard money comes mostly from flipping gear and riding as cheap af. I'm still hopeful there will be opportunities, but I'm always hopeful for each new winter and I'm feeling pretty defeated with what seems to be a long term shift in weather patterns. Thinking and dreaming about snowboarding 365 days a year and then not getting 1 single good day of riding in has me not in a good place, and Idk how to change that. So reason tells me I may need to find a way to become indifferent to these outcomes.

I really know what you're talking about, some years ago I was in a bad situation, lost my job when I had a newborn and a new house, at one point was even without money, so I had to arrange myself and I had to renounce to go snowboarding for a couple years( and I lost a couple of really good seasons with a lot of snow), at one point I was even thinking that I could live without snowboarding.....I was wrong, as soon as I had the opportunity to come back on the snow the monkey was on my back again, I realised what snowboard and being in the mountains means to me and I slowly went back, I cannot go snowboarding as much as I used to go in the old times but everytime I go I enjoy it even more, don't give up, your time will come again.😉🙂
