Yep, I'm here. Moved down to AUS in 2015 and it wasn't for the snow. Falls and Hotham for me.

Nice! I’d love to get down to Falls or Hotham one days. Where did you move from? Not many folks WOULD move here for the snow unless it was just seasonal to work during our winter and move back to NOHE for theirs.

Late trip report, got home sunday.

Trip 1 for 2022 done and dusted 1-6/8. Real mixed bag of conditions from Day of the season calls on Tuesday (by our lodge staff) to Noah’s ark being brought in for evac on wednesday.

But a lot of fun was had and new boards went well for all the family!
It was clear that 2 years off was bad for the kids progression, so we made the most of conditions and rode in the rain just to get the kids back into the feel again. I was feeling pretty rusty myself, combination of fitness or lack thereof as well as new board/binding combo. After a decade on my previous rockered board going back to camber was bit of a learning curve, but the new cambered deck really got me having a lot of fun again at speed and carving.

Nice pics from your last sess'. Getting an Australia pow day is rare!

Take your fam to Falls if you're looking for some wider runs, real good stuff for the kiddos. Hotham is good if you're into a "Aussie-gnarly" riding. Feels way more freeride-y in terms of atmosphere. Generally Hotham gets hit first w/ the snow for the VIC region, it's been a good season.

Came in riding from Tirol and East Tirol region (gonna say it's the mecca in Europe) in Austria. I was living in Munich for about 3.5 years and spent a SHIT load of time riding around Austria and Italy. There is no comparison between there and here, just accepted the fact of what Australia is and thankful that I can still ride (and subsequently get to Japan, if they ever re-open their borders).

Oh and while I'm at it, the resort entry situation here is utter horse shit. How they can force people to pay to get into a region PER DAY is absolute bonkers. How Aussies haven't revolted against this is beyond me.

Even if you wanted to split, you have to pay to get in. I really wish I could direct this to some organisation. I don't know anywhere in the world that I've ridden that put riders into this pay to play.

Those fees go directly to running the National Parks, so not such a bad thing. We have always just had the national parks annual pass, there is a local NP that costs $13 per day to access and we always use the road so it’s a no brainer for us. Annual pass is $190 including the snowy mountains National Park. Much cheaper than the $30 day pass to get up the mountains.

Entry is $55 a day and over $600 for the season. Plus it's only applicable for the resort you go too, not all the resorts. It's crazy how expensive this is being winter only. While I don't disagree with your comment on running National Parks and proper funding, they are taking the piss out of it, especially when they are fining people. No other country that I know of implements this style of entrance fee.

Is that Parks Victoria?

With Nsw NPWS it's $200ish for the year and gets you access to every national park in the state.
