The drama continues... WP got a foot of fresh, so I decided to set up the NOWs on my SB Powder Racer for tomorrow. The bolts are just too short for my Capita boards, which have been known to have deeper recessed inserts than other boards. I took the bindings themselves entirely out of the equation to make sure it wasn't the bushings, so it was just the mounting posts and discs. I can't get half of the bolts started, even doing the washerless method to start, and the ones that do bite only get a 1/2 to 3/4 turn in which doesn't leave me feeling confident.

I even tried my Strata bolts, same deal. Anyone know who makes the longest mounting hardware? Burton says theirs are 16mm, so those might be the call.

I recall having to really push down with my weight to get them to thread until my foot pads compressed from riding. Though, I don't know your situation and wouldn't want to advise something that messes your shit up.

Yeah it wasn’t possible for my setup. Think my Powder Racer has abnormally deep inserts haha. I have blisters on my hands from putting all my weight into the screwdriver, even with just the mounting discs and nothing else interfering. Got them settled though with my Rome screws.

i actually didn't mind the drive straps on the older versions (think this is like a '17/'18 Drive i'm referring to). curious how the new ones are which i will give a shot next week before ordering burton straps for the drives.

Coverage is actually pretty great for December. Been lapping fresh in the Vazquez and patch trees all day. Probably won’t be as much tomorrow, unfortunately, but I’m sure you could find some stashes.

The Drive strap is basically the same AFAIK. Super rigid "FlipIt" strap. I can't stand that strap, but a few buddies have told me they prefer that complete lack of flex.

Yea, it's like when if research tells mattress companies consumer wants support and they just start shipping giant stone tablets. Pretty striking just how loyal I've been to NOW / Jones when their straps were so bad for so long. In retrospect the straps on my circa 2014 Drives were basically a comedy of errors, plus their weird metal discs with proprietary washers lol.

So, I think I get the Now hype. Had a really good time on them today. Some highlights:

• They’re super light and made my whole setup feel lighter.

• The shock absorption is on point like everyone says. They felt noticeably damper and cushioned landings better than my other bindings. I had several flat landings on cat track sidehits and they kept my heels from taking the brunt of it.

• The board feel and lateral tweakability is better than expected. With the Select Pro highback, hanger 3, soft bushings, and maybe the shitty ankle strap in play, I was able to butter and slash the shit out of my Powder Racer today. Still had plenty of carving response though.

• They’re super comfy and the Jones toe strap works well. I think the Jones ankle straps will help even more when I get them.

• My forward lean concern wasn’t an issue.

• Foot fatigue was mitigated well. As others have said, I didn’t have to tighten my straps down as much to get the response I wanted. Honestly though, that’s the only aspect of skate tech that I noticed while riding.

So, other than the shitty straps, short hardware, and cheap ass plastic buckles, these are keepers for sure. They feel similar to my Stratas but maybe just a little better at everything all around minus the above components.
