Re: The 2022 boot thread
don’t know if they still do a matrix like that, but not much has changed since then other than a few names.
Invader>Moto Lace
Almighty/Concord>Swath
Imperial>Photon SZ
Rampant>Kendo
RIP Danner
that chart also only divides up by lacing and price point, so you don’t get much info like flex/liner levels.

Re: The 2022 boot thread
That matrix is useless when it comes to what really matters in a boot.
a bit of taper, a lot of camber
Re: The 2022 boot thread
True, but frankly that is about all the median snowboard consumer needs to make a decision lol. Much more info is just going to confuse them.ad1105 wrote: Fri Nov 18, 2022 7:32 am That matrix is useless when it comes to what really matters in a boot.
Re: The 2022 boot thread
Stopped by the shop this evening and tried on the few higher end models they had in 9. Don't know if I'd ever tried on DC before, but the transcend & judge were both pretty dang comfy and secure out of the box. I could see myself riding the transcend. Also, I'm down with dual boa. Kinda hard to get me off speedzone, but that would do it.
Wanted to try on the vans verse and infuse, but my size was sold out. All they had in 9 was the hi standard pro, and it was a little weird. Granted, that's with a stock insole and no fiddling with anything.
Looking forward to being in Montana in February, hoping I'm able to make a point of trying on a bunch of boots down there.

Totally agreed, and that's not why I want it.ad1105 wrote: Fri Nov 18, 2022 7:32 am That matrix is useless when it comes to what really matters in a boot.
I like charts and graphs and overviews. I have compromised working memory so something as "normal" as turning a page in a catalog, or clicking through a website essentially wipes the previous item out of my memory, so comparisons become very very very hard, even between just two items. I often have to open a bunch of browser windows, size them the same and tile them on screen just to "get" the differences/similarities. Easy when it's one brand (and they lay out their specs consistently, which insanely is not a given), harder when it's across brands/sites.
A graph/matrix gives me a map of the product landscape which I can then use to more easily compare on all other, more detailed (and yes important) aspects of a boot. When a company provides such a map, it saves me the work of making one. That's why I ask for it.
And that's why I make spreadsheets (see Goggles thread)

Re: The 2022 boot thread
Just bought some 32 TM-2 Boa Wides (Bode Merril ones) for science. They actually don’t fit that bad, have one on my left foot and my Adidas Acerras on the right. Tighter heel in the 32 (without the j bars even), but toe box feels similar.
But my god, they’re just so uncomfortably stiff in all the wrong places. Feels like the liner is made out of concrete and the instep pressure is unbearable. Would take a lot of molding/breaking in/time to make these work for my feet.
The last good 32s IMO were around 2012 or so before they switched liners.

But of course... I meant nothing by it. I admire your self advocacy! I used to do the same with Excel or Google Sheets to compare board specs.spurist wrote: Sat Nov 19, 2022 1:22 amTotally agreed, and that's not why I want it.ad1105 wrote: Fri Nov 18, 2022 7:32 am That matrix is useless when it comes to what really matters in a boot.

Speaking of spreadsheets and board specs…
Re: The 2022 boot thread
after many years with burton, (stumpy, ruler, driver, sabbath, slx) last year i changed to 32 (tm2) but i chose a half size bigger and had to use neoprene to fill gaps. In order not to buy another 32 tm2 I waited to buy the elite boot but in the end I bought the vans infuse longo.
Vans infuse Longo are super comfortable (at home). but I want to explain something.
with burton boots always buy small boot. 7.5us. so in 32 I bought 8.5 since they said they were small. but I discovered a much better way of treading and although they were big, I was happy!!!
With vans infuse at first I didn't like them at all. comfortable but something did not work. so i did a test: change the templates and !!! amazing!! it's another boot.. it's great!!! Now it's time to customize everything in the snow but changing templates can be a solution for those who like infuse vans and find them too narrow. for me they were comfortable but the tread mode was very bad. now they are great on the tread with other insoles. at least at home

@jota what do you mean by "templates" and "tread" please?
