I don't even know what to consider normal width anymore, but it's certainly wider than it used to be. Remember when a ~160 was often sub-250? Crazy.

Anyway, I don't consider the covert volume shifted, but it's definitely a "modern midwide." Coming from what you normally ride, it's likely the case that the HTH is the best choice for you between the two.
Boards definitely have gotten wider, to me the aeronaut is the throwback to narrow waist days and on my first ride i was pleasantly welcome of how fast the edge to edge on that board was. Having a 280ww powderboard and jumping down to a 250ww was night and day.

Thoughts on the taka split? If you had to run that board with your variable conditions in mind

Shape seems fine to me for riding all around, but no experience with it. Everything else is preference... I'm betting it's too soft for my taste, and I like something a bit wider & more directional.

The Taka has way smaller camber zone than the other 2 mentioned. Might be the least fun on icy bumpy conditions out of the 3.
My taka solid feels fine for everything when I'm on edge and carving but feels small when flat basing and monster trucking over stuff.

The taka split was underwhelming to me. Great shape but the construction took away most of that magic hps feeling. I'm sure my expectations was to high since I own two amazing hps solid boards

The less-tapered cadet is great, but I would 1000% run this as a daily driver in a solid.

@Spenser what clips are those on your Covert? I have the factory Karakorams but was thinking about replacing with the Phantoms, just don't know what size I need...

First season on the Covert, my other split is a Cardiff Swell, which has been quite neglected since getting the US. LOVING the Covert! Such a great board, and I agree, I want it in a solid. Still stuck between the Cadet and the Deep Reach as a solid from US, but if the dimensions of the Covert were in a solid it would be a no-brainer for me.

Thanks!

They're also unions, as above. I don't care regardless because I'm swapping in my phantoms, but would have rather had the K ultra 2.0 come stock. Not sure what's up, there.

While Phantoms are passive, they put the board under tension without bindings when adjusted correctly. They are just beefy, so easy to set up, and work great. The unions feel solid once you have bindings on & they're adjusted correctly, but unlike the phantoms, they just hang the board halves together without tension. I don't think they would provide much support on a board where the tail connection is flat (swallowtail/etc), but that doesn't matter on the covert.

By size, do you mean hardware? I did some comparing as the inserts are different than my squash, and it's the black M5X11 fine-thread. I should have them in a few days to confirm 100%. I'd email them - I don't know which of the listed board brands use that hardware.

What are you hanging up on between cadet and deep reach? Maybe I can help
