not completely, but I think 5-10 years from now they'll make up more than 3/4 of what you see in the lift lines.

I'm sure half of us here will be on them, a combination of us being older, chronic injures, and the tech also improving (better plastic composites, better boots)

If history and the evolution of ski bindings are any guide then I'd say yes, eventually an easy entry and exit system will win.

I could never see myself riding step-ons, my feet are just too hard to boot fit, I would get heel lift most likely.

I could see for sure using some type of Supermatic binding. Everyone I know who’s tried it, loves it.

Except for tow-in, surfing and skateboarding have not evolved to straps. Skiing and we, are different sports and philosophies. I will test step on but not because it’s an automatic system. Easy entry and exit are not important to me. I like the ritual of adjusting my bindings. It’s a part of the loose game

I prefer the feel and security or straps. I like that pressure across my ankle and I like giving myself an extra click when I’m psyching myself up. My friends who use Step Ons may be able to get their run started a few seconds ahead of me, but none of them are beating me to the bottom.
I’m not averse to Step On someday, but I won’t convert unless injury or age force my hand. Not trying to be stubborn about it, but I don’t have a problem that needs to be addressed by a quick-entry system, yet.
a bit of taper, a lot of camber

As much as we sound like grumpy old men resistant to change, to me snowboarding is a way for me to cling to my athleticism, it’s a reason to stay mobile and strong. Getting older doesn’t always mean losing the ability to move, you just may have to work a little smarter. Step on can be amazing for those who do have those issues such as adaptive athletes or those who appreciate the comforts in life, I’m not one of them.

StepOn isn't about convenience for me, but performance. You guys have it twisted.

Anyway, to each their own... but without giving it a shot you really don't know what you don't know. I never assume anymore.

Surely it is both - or at least the convenience is a major part of the appeal for many people.

And the performance aspect is not universally superior: Consensus is that the edge/edge-to-edge performance is excellent/superior to strap bindings. But lateral mobility/ability to roll the foot/etc. for freestyle is much more restricted.
