Yeah, if I wasn't on a big mountain I could see that being more attractive. I'm a big fan of snowsurf style and I can still do that with my stiff setup, but I'm sure it would feel better softer.
The StepOn interface definitely tends to be stiffer than straps IMO, but the Swath or Photon Soft (or Photons after riding for some time) are MUCH softer than Ions. The Genesis bindings are also quite a bit "softer" feeling while not really being soft if that makes any sense. You definitely lose lateral flex (a benefit for hard charging, freeriding and some styles of carving), but a negative to the surfy japanese style.
I think that for you, something like FASE could be great although it won't be as time-saving/convenient as StepOn/Supermatic, it will be an improvement over standard setups for sure, with hopefully only upsides and no compromises.
yeah, I def wonder what the reason was Burton stopped selling the StepOn version of the Kendo boot.
I think a unique issue is that I prefer to travel with just one set of bindings, I'll usually travel with my solid and split, and none of these systems (stepon, Supermatic, fase) solve that

As a fellow surfer and lover of lateral flex, just skip StepOns. I know it’s a total “trust me, bro” moment, but it sounds like we want the same things with our boots, bindings, and riding styles.

I personally thought the Swath was a better boot than the Kendo (except for the cost-sensitive). I just don't think there is much overlap between the people who use StepOn and the people who want a lace boot. I sure as hell don't want a lace boot (even if I go back to another system in the future).
FYI -- I know a guy who does that with the StepOn Split bindings for his solid and split. He uses the Spark R&D Solid Board Pucks on his solid to make that work. I haven't ridden the StepOn split bindings yet (on a solid or a split), so I can't really comment on how close the experience is to the standard StepOn binding. He says they are great.

I was in the same boat, but just caught up haha. Didn't know it was getting a little spicy in here lol (not quite Doc & forgot the other guy's name that was his main nemesis, with the super sophisticated rebuttals haha. Matty, I think ??).
Sidenote: you're a wild one @michaelangelo. Pink Starbursts are the best tasting ones, everyone knows that .

haha, i did read most of it. most of my EL time is in the down moments at work, so long posts mostly just get glazed over.
Looks like companies just license the chassis, replace the upper portion of the highback and footbed material, then call it good. Those look like they have Adidas boost in the footbed, though, which is kinda cool.

Try to sell locally! eBay has such huge fees. I price things at least in 20% to 30% higher on eBay than I do locally and most of the time sell locally first.
Somehow managed to sell both pairs of bindings and boots within hours of listing them on Facebook today... apparently these things are in high demand even at the beach haha.
