That does in fact seem like it fits the bill..Kevington wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 10:30 pmI think you would like the Horizon. Too bad the specs are a touch too wide for my taste these days, esp for 8US. Wish there was a deck in their line that fit my preferred specs range, cos really enjoyed my Orbit few seasons back.
Essentially the general specs of a 57 Mercury, but on a directional. That's my personal sweet spot, and no stiffer than 7/10.

Re: United Shapes
The 7.5m SCR is my main hesitation, tbh. Otherwise, the 55 Horizon would've been my choice for sure. Def want to try one, though.

I was concerned about the 7.8 on the 159 as low-mid 8s is my preference. Feels long enough when riding though. My riding is around 50:50 small Scandinavian hills and big mountains in the Alps. It’s the best board I’ve had in terms of not feeling either too much or not enough in either situation.

Same, ideal SCR for my taste is 8m for the feel I like. I'll keep it on the radar .Kevington wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 11:17 am I was concerned about the 7.8 on the 159 as low-mid 8s is my preference. Re: United Shapes
Was debating sharing, but have confirmation now. Deep reach is being exchanged under warranty
Like the pencil, it has a mild convex contour across the base, like an extremely mild V. In its case, it's consistent down the entire length, no concave. You can't see it with the eye, which I'm sure is why they are passing QC. I don't know how they do it exactly, but I'm thinking a factory should have a way to check this since it's not exactly visible or able to be felt. While factory tolerances exist, they *should* still be less than this.
I'm sure it would ride fine in this case, and I can't imagine it being noticeable in soft snow... no complaints from me, but I was simply curious and reached out to US. They said it's unusual and want to swap it. In this case I would have been fine with it if they said it wasn't an issue.
I was stoked on the pencil, but now that I've handled both in person, deep reach is the one I want.

The difference in your customer service experiences between US and Korua seems pretty night and day.Spenser wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 2:06 pm Was debating sharing, but have confirmation now. Deep reach is being exchanged under warranty

Re: United Shapes
I think that was a bit random, and I have more insight after my email from Benji.. but yeah, still odd. Still can't buy their claim that the convex contour is intentional, but I'll give them benefit of the doubt on the warranty exchange. Shit happens.
US warranty emails go through full stack, who require the product returned to the original retailer to handle it. They only do it direct if you buy direct. Seems like a bit much, logistically - and I wanted to confirm if it was even an issue before going down that road, which was not addressed by FS. Sent US a brief message on IG and he wants to see if they can set up a direct exchange. I certainly don't need any extra treatment, but appreciated that.

Re: United Shapes
Longtime lurker, first time poster here.
Anyway, question about a US board to bring into my quiver, and seems like folks here have some good knowledge and experience.
Current Quiver: 157 Super 8 Pro, 152 Dancehaul Pro, 156 Niseko Pleasures, 156 Cardiff Swell Split, 157 United Shapes Covert Split
Loving the Covert and definitely more US curious now. Wondering if the 158 Cadet or the 156 Deep Reach makes more sense...
Also open to suggestions!
Thanks!

Re: United Shapes
Covert is a little more tapered so likely floats slightly better, but is still most equivalent to the cadet. If that's the type of board you want to add, there's no questionindigobc wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 3:05 pm Longtime lurker, first time poster here.

I haven't ridden the deep reach yet, but seeing specs and having handled it in person, it seems like an easy daily driver for fans of taper, that has the upper hand in pow, but not as freestyle friendly.
So really, I think it's pretty simple. Freeride/freestyle & good float, or freeride/pow with better float, both being very capable everywhere.
Your quiver has boards that you could say would have some overlap in their intent (cadet/super, deep/niseko), so it depends how you want to do the math. Are you getting rid of anything? You could always sell some & get both like I did...
Re: United Shapes
Yeah, you kind of nailed it with the overlap I have also noticed (Cadet vs S8P or NP vs DR).Spenser wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 3:22 pmCovert is a little more tapered so likely floats slightly better, but is still most equivalent to the cadet. The S8P has a little bit of a larger radius at 7.9, and also has the backseat camber, so different enough to not want to replace with the Cadet, but also maybe too similar to have both? Plus this is the last season they are making it, so it's hard to justify getting rid of it.
The NP is one that I could maybe see a one in one out for the DR. The NP only has 2 mm of camber, which sometimes doesn't feel like quite enough when in variable or firm conditions (of course not what this board is designed for, but sometimes you encounter it even on soft days). That being said, do you know the camber height on the DR?
And yes, I could also totally do the same as you and liquidate to pick both of them up! (although it seems like the 158 cadet is sold out everywhere, so maybe that makes my decision a little easier)
