That's an odd one that they dont mention it. Hope it rides OK for you. I guess it's a way of claiming 'hard carving', while quietly making the boards easier to ride as the brand gets bigger. A bit like how they claim camber to the tail but there is clearly a good bit of rocker there. I wish they had the Cafe Racer profile on more of their boards. Arguably it could be on the Otto and the TF to make them better for carving and freestyle, leaving the big rocker and lifted edges for the more pow oriented shapes.

Emailed with one of the guys at Korua. According to him, this has "always" been part of the design on many of their boards. He says the subtle contour was inspired by their experience with some race boards, and they use it due to how wide their noses get, paired with the heavy taper & setback - together, requiring more force/energy to make them do their thing the way they want, at the contact/during engagement.

But then, the bit of early rise also creates a "progressive contact/edge loading" type of effect too, so is a 3D contour necessary?

He also essentially said that because of what can happen with factory tolerances, small as they are, they put just a hair more of this contour into the nose to ensure they have enough of it, and to be certain they can't come out concave I'm just tellin' ya what I was told...

You can conclude this visually, but he assured me it's nothing like TBT or equivalent designs. It's not supposed to be felt, or delay engagement.

Apparently the old transition finder should have a little bit of it, but I never noticed. I sold it to a local friend, so I'm going to check. My new TF is flat.

If this is a thing, they should mention it. The friend I heard this from was talking to the shop guy, who claimed the korua rep told them about it at some point.. so it's like... an internal "secret" that may or may not exist? the whole situation seems a bit odd, but whatever.

Learned that korua presses a gentle "3D" shape through the pencil nose, and some others to varying degrees.. not mentioned anywhere to my knowledge. I hadn't noticed (haven't ridden it yet), which tells you it's mild.

This is one of the new boards, not nobile. So is the one the friend owns, who told me about this (also a pencil 64)

Is it a QC issue? Depends if you believe the "we've always had this contour" story... which is hard to believe. I'm going to keep looking into it.

If anyone else feels like checking their board for flatness, that would be appreciated. So far, I haven't been able to find anyone else with a board like this, other than the guy I found out from, who also has a pencil 64 from the new factory.

I checked the rest of the board. Tail also has a slight convex area, starting at the camber/early rise transition. The rest of the board is actually slightly concave. There is a small gap under the straight edge, the whole way between the convex parts. The other guy's pencil is flat through this section. All my other boards are fully flat. Hard not to believe this one is a bit warped. I'm not worried about it, but I'm going to try to get to the bottom of it while the board is still brand new.

Edit: I just now read that you mentioned 'warped'. Ugh, that sucks.

Damn, the convex to me wouldn't be an issue per se... The concave are though, that would be a hard no for me. That is suction and slows you down. I'd seek a replacement.

Just checked all four of my Pencils. All were from Nobile and none of them are warped. I think you're entitled to a replacement.

I had a torsionally warped 1st-gen CafeRacer+. The ride was absolutely affected. I sent them a video similar to yours and it was determined to be a manufacturing defect. They sent me a new board within a week.
