Re: OUTERWEAR
quick feeler for this kit I rarely use:
2022 Volcom L Gore Jacket + Pant combo in XXL
Jacket is "Sky Blue" and has about 3 days on it
Pants are "Caramel" and have 1 day of use
early EZ deal of $250 for the set, or $150 per item.
*cannot confirm water poison levels

Re: OUTERWEAR
damn, 686 outerwear design is so frustrating. They add useless crap to drive the price up (like a draw cord on a crew neck hoody or merino on the collar and in the pockets of a jacket. )
All I want is a classic goretex jacket. 2 (or 1) chest pocket, pit zips etc.
The men's hydra thermagraph has a good cut etc. Just make that one in gore tex and not insulated, that's all I ask.
Instead we have the gore-tex core jacket. NO pit zips and that chest pocket is not a pocket, it's a vent! For when your right nipple is overheating. Could be good for inflicting purple nurples?
Next level up is the gore-tex gt jacket which has that oversized chest zip. It looks ridiculous imo. Plus it has some ridiculous upgrades I mentioned before (merino in pockets, RFID pocket so noone steals your cc date).
The gore-tex 3L ATV jacket looks ok (I could ignore the one zip being longer than the other) but the price is insane.
I ended up picking up the goretex fragment jacket but I found out later that it doesn't have pitzips!!! It has some pin holes in the armpit half-covered by a flap. grrr.
They also have lots of pants with just one cargo pocket, for that uneven weight distribution when riding or hiking.
Maybe I'm just getting old?

686 has always done some goofy shit. I know I always wanted to disassemble my belt every time i needed a tool. Their cost cutting measures are pretty hard to get over, but their bibs are still best in the business IMOSupra wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:00 pm damn, 686 outerwear design is so frustrating. Re: OUTERWEAR
I just re-waterproofed some bibs I own so I didn't order new bibs. Got the gore core pant and dojo pant (for snowskating).
I was going to dump the fragment jacket for not having pitzips but I'll try it out and see how it goes. the purple colorway is actually light blue in person. And the sassafras jacket actually has black zips, not tan like in the site photos.

Re: OUTERWEAR
I love the GT jacket. I agree that the upgrades you mentioned are pretty trivial, but it's $60 cheaper than the directly comparable Cyclic.
It's not Gore-Tex, but you should check out the Gateway shell. It's still 20k and super minimal and affordable. Last year's in either green or that pink color are under $150 on several sites right now.
Re: OUTERWEAR
Has anybody tried on any of this year's AG stuff? I emailed rider services to ask about comparing cuts to AK pieces I've either owned or tried on recently but didn't get much useful info. I mean I know AG is supposed to be baggier, but is it also trending towards shorter and boxier for the kids?
Specifically interested in hearing about the Hardpack 3L jacket. That dark purple is calling my name.

Re: OUTERWEAR
You're right, that gateway shell looks good. If it was gore it would be perfect, but 20k is ok. The red nebula colorway this year is a bit brutal ha ha. I see it has a glove link which I really like. It's listed in the features for the Fragment jacket but it's not in the official list of features so fingers crossed it's there.eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 6:35 amI love the GT jacket. I tried on a bunch of the 25 stuff last spring.peruna wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 8:14 am Has anybody tried on any of this year's AG stuff? Jackets are up to 2 inches shorter than ak and yes much wider/boxier by 4 inches or so. The puffy they did this year is super cropped; it didn't even hit me at my belt line. Its idiotic.
Pants are normal waist and pretty baggy, I don't think they are any shorter though. I was wearing flip flops so it was hard to say.

Re: OUTERWEAR
Yes, they have been making stuff for a few seasons now. I have one of their top-end bibs (https://oyuki.com/product/mens-goshiki- ... ib-pant-2/). Surprisingly baggy fit, especially considering that it is an Asian brand. I am 5'9" and 160lbs and size medium is way too loose/baggy for me.eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:20 am Didn't know the glove company Oyuki made outerwear. Looks very AK:

Have used it for less than and a week at will probably sell it off - shame because I like the features (pockets, vents, drop seat, etc) and material (stretch).
