Maybe the confusion was the use of the word “early.” You don’t want to end a turn too early, ie not finish it. But when you do finish a turn, you want to start the edge change early, ie before you are going downhill again.

I’m having a hard time getting the wording right, hah. Short version - you can’t start a turn while going across the fall line (like his sequence) if you don’t finish the turn leading into it. Think of a “finished“ turn as a 180° arc (or close enough), where the beginning and end are perpendicular to the fall line - the edge change happens while going ~90° across the slope.

Most people are not coming close to that full arc, which makes it harder to do those deep carves. Extreme example would be pointing it downhill, and then all the sudden trying to do a deep carve - not gonna work well. Without finishing turns ie completing the arc, you’re constantly fighting your downhill momentum while trying to hold an edge. But when you finish turns across the fall line, your momentum follows the arc and it allows you to get properly deep/low. Awesome feeling.

Pretty much - you wouldn’t ride across the hill for that long, but that’s not the point, haha

He talks about controlling your speed by doing finished turns. You are actually moving quite fast along the edge and accelerating by doing proper carves, but your overall downhill speed is not super high, and that’s the “control” you have. Such a good feeling.

yes exactly, there is speed in turning properly.

never given it thought so really interested to see where im actaully changing edges from toe back to heel. pretty sure its different on banks then in the middle of the piste.

i know it says the stance options in the specs, but its really nice that they offer narrower options. a lot of longer boards from US/Euro companies have a minimum stance width at or above what i like on longer (above 160ish) boards. Like min 56cm. i've gotten used to assuming im gonna use the inner set of inserts and was surprised when i measured on this one and it was way too narrow.

It is nice. As you know, their longer boards aren’t simply for larger/taller people like your average brand

I think even on my OG squash 59, I was using the innermost inserts for my 55-56cm stance. My Stranda mid-insert width is about 54cm IIRC, plenty of room for different widths

The shorty is fantastic. @kimchi you should have a look at this one. It feels a bit soft but the hold is perfect. I’ve been riding with drives but might try the stratas
