Has anyone tried the B backseat driver or the throwback or the k2 tree splitter? (Yes… i’d said K2 ) I'm thinking of something to have fun with the kids when the lifts close. Can these work on hard snow?

I have two B backseats. They're amazing in deep-ish pow. IMO their ability to be ridden otherwise is dependent on (1.) The slope angle (do no think you're going to be able to really make an edge bite in a hardpack. They'll just spit out one way and you the other. Low angle you may be able to work with. and and (2.) Your ability to flop around on the ground like a fish out of water for fun. Because a decent amount of pow surfing is just sorta hanging on until that happens. It's a shitload of fun and long as you're in for the weirdness of it all.

We turn a blind eye to lib's transgressions because we know they use the wood too shitty to make snowboards with, to make the skis. They also don't wash their hands after the bathroom when pressing em, and pop boogers into the epoxy.

Actually, I think it's because it's a snowboard company subverting the skiers instead of skiers subverting snowboarding.

I stopped believing snowboarding had a core when Nike and adidas we're given such a hearty warm welcome after bailing numerous times before under the lame justification that they were comfey, and supporting pro boarders in lean times and they 'mean it' this time. Some folks would pepe le pew right back to them if they started up again.

Meanwhile an OG pioneer of snowboard boots like Northwave gets nose wrinkles from folks when they're making some of the best boots out there (imo).

i woult try (again) northwave boots if i could find them somewhere.

last pair i bought was 23 years ago and havent seen them since.

and just and fyi to all ya is i would wear wallmart boots if they fit me well i couldnt care less about the brand if i can get a good fitting boot.

They've not had a foothold in the states for a good long while. I still sometimes score some out of Canada. Otherwise they're mainly over seas these days.

Chicken and egg situation with shops carrying them I think. Not enough demand stateside because not enough shops have them and so they're not in the conversation so there's no demand. There are a number of brands that thrive over seas that don't get brought up here much just bc lack of exposure.

Not exactly related, but two of my buddies and myself ride Northwave shoes for gravel and road riding (all different models) and they’re great. Quality is top tier.

you're better off with one of those snow skateboards, my bsd does not work great on hardback, even with the steel edges (k2 doesn't have them), the board has so much rocker it's basically one of those snow discs... each time I'm thinking 'this would be a dumb way to end my season'.

but when there is fresh snow, it's hella fun

you're fighting not just rocker but a whole lot of bevel on those Backseats. I think the Throwbacks and K2 would maybe actually do better on (soft) groomers even w/o edges since they are flatter bases.

I see that they have a very specific approach where they work great. But in my case it is more a plan with the kids and I stay in the second position, so my skills do not matter much. Given your opinions, I’m even thinking of putting some pads on a small Nug that I have (when Burton tricked me with the sizes and I bought a small Nug and a small Barracuda) and using the Nug prepared even with surf tow-in straps…

The problem is that I always think: what if this can bring me something more and help me improve things? Then I no longer think of something fun and I want to go further. And that's when I ruin my kid’s fun. What is it that I don't want?
