I would absolutely not settle for the wide because of their mistake. It's a big jump, especially on a board like the cheater, especially with your boot size
I spoke to Warren @ Easy Rider and they are going to correct their mistake. They are working with Lars and/or Mats to have a Cheater 170 (standard width) shipped out to me. They are looking for last year's green topsheet, but if they can't find one then they will be sending me the new model.

anyone have experience with comparably sized shorty AND tree surfer?
Yes. I own the shorty 164 and have demoed the tree surfer 157. The difference is kind of what you would expect. Shorty is more stable at speed and you can push soo much more on the tail before it folds. Treesurfer is more nimble. I have only ridden the treesurfer on groomers...where I preferred the Shorty (that I didn´t own yet).

By request, Lars is starting to do reviews. I'm hoping for a couple subtle jabs at angry here & there.
He actually gave Angrysnowboarder and The Good Ride a shout-out in that video, haha.
Although I dunno how happy Avran is going to be, being mentioned in the same recommendation as Biesty xD
I liked Lars' approach, though. He did a good job of breaking down the tech and design decisions in the boards, and how they translate to on the snow feel and experience.

Well, he gave their Stranda reviews a shout so viewers could watch more stranda feedback which is overwhelmingly positive (deservedly so!)
He's very respectful and professional, and... it's not my place to share his personal opinions on certain things. I feel safe on EL only enough to be vague about it, hah
Stoked to see what he does for cheater/pipeliner videos 'cause I like listening to him nerd. Every time I have him on the TV, my girlfriend goes "shut up Lars!"
I know that James gets dragged around here, but I appreciate his honesty and that he always describes himself as just an "average" rider. You also can't fault him for the fact that he constantly posts videos of his riding, so what you see is what you get (unlike Angry).
I've also noticed that his riding has improved massively over the last few years, so good on him. Some of his videos are taken I think on the glacier at Hood in the summer, so I wonder if he's gotten some coaching as far as just developing better technique (I'm no super pro and think that most of us could use some of this imo). For me personally I'm obsessed with watching people snowboard and how they move their bodies (my riding buddies are quite sick of the way that I contantly watch people riding below when we're on the lift). In fact I think there are as many ways of riding a snowboard as there are people. for an example of what I'm talking about compare how Lando moves his body on a snowboard vs Nico, they could not be more different (I'm a huge fan of both btw).
In videos from the past, James used to have this quirk where he pretty severely dipped his head into his toeside turns. When I teach someone who does this, I rudely beat them unmercifully until they learn to keep their fucking head level. He no longer does this, so it makes me wonder if someone "coached" him out of it. Or perhaps he saw enought videos of himself that he became aware of it and how damaging it is to your ability to progress in your riding ability. Long story short, I don't always agree with his takes on boards, but I watch the viideos sometimes and I think James is an honest stoked snowboard geek like the rest of us. If James did a colab video with Lars I would 100% watch that, two very different kinds of cat.
