im used to a 1 on stiffness scale from 1-10 so they all sound scary stiff to me xD

I picked up a pair of 8.5 Burton Photon speedzone for a good price. They are a wee bit snug in the big toes, but otherwise feel not bad, I’ve always struggled with speed zone in the store so it’s nice to fiddle with it and I think it could work over my usual traditional laces.

I'll likely return them though. I'm hoping my preferred shop will get their new boots in soon.

As always, the big issue for me is serious lack of ability to try on. No k2, ride, salomon, nidecker, bataleon... I think all we have in town is Burton, Vans, DC, and maybe Rome. B works but I'm tired of ions and still have two pairs with life in them, Vans/Rome don't fit me well, and I've already been running the DC that works for me. There wasn't much to try on when I was up north recently, unfortunately

You can't imagine how much I understand you. Within a radius of 500km I can only see Vans and 32s, but I can't even try them on. They don't have sizes, sometimes not even S bindings… Sometimes I buy from a big online store and that way I can try them on, but even though they give you your money back afterwards, you have to pay more than a thousand euros in advance…(which is exactly what I don't want) because if you don't try several you can't compare… (you already know… ) it's crazy...

Width is fine my right boot feels a little short. I did the following:

with my regular snowboard socks on, the liner removed, toes touching the end of the boot and knees bent a 5/8" inch dowel fits exactly between my heel and the inside of the boot on my big foot, there is a wee bit extra wiggle room on my smaller (left0 foot.

This suggests to me that they are the right size, how much is an imprint 3 likely to pack out, especially lenghtwise?

I'm a juror on a trial right now, shame I can't sit in the box with my boots on!

In my experience with the Photons, they don't pack out a lot. Mine fit very similar by the time they were too soft and leaky to ride with. Imprint liners, in general, seem to have a reputation for not packing out too much.

I'd say half a size at most, and that's with you actively trying to pack them out quickly.

This just made me add the Verse to my list of boots to try. I tried the Infuse last year, but didn't like the fit. But I've had good fits with Burton boots before, so if the Verse have a similar fit, they might be the kind of boot I'm looking for.

I find Vans and Burton boots fit quite differently. I can make both of them work (and do - run Verses for splitting and (fake) leather Ions for resort), but in different ways: Vans Verse fit pretty much out of the box for me, while for most Burton boots (exception: Swath) I need to fill up a lot of volume especially in the upper part.

Strictly in terms of fit to the foot, the answer is yes for me with the Swath and the Verse. Both fit my narrow and low volume foot very well.

In terms of feel, they are obviously vastly different: Swath is medium-soft, very lightweight (always seemed like one of the lightest B boots), and a snug but slightly compliant/stretchy feel (like a good sneaker or hiking/approach shoe). In contrast, the Verse is burly, bulky, and heavy, with a very solid/immalleable feel (like a heavy leather boot).

For me the Swath (even when it was still called the Ambush) has been pretty unique in the Burton line-up - much less bulky, super comfortable out of the box, and much more snugly fitting (almost a 'tailored' feel) than the Ion/Imperial/Ruler (have not tried SLX/Photon/Moto). Despite that and the softer flex, I actually still find it pretty responsive and it is one of my favorite boots for all over the resort. But you sacrifice durability, burliness, and hiking capability.

Fit is more important to me. But I like everything you said about the Swath. Now I have the Infuse and I'm happy. I always had problems with Burton boots. Driver, Sabbath, SLX… Always the heel raised. But never in the infuse. I hope the way they fit and feel for you can also be similar to mine…
