As someone who does not ride step ons (Burton boots do not work for me) take this opinion with a grain of salt, but many of these issues seem to be inherent in a highly complex highly designed piece of true machinery vs. the relatively simple foot clamps we have had for the last forty years. It just seems like that is an inherent part of risk/part of riding them, sure they are more convenient, sure they may perform better but there are also more parts and therefore more potential issues.

Have to disagree. As someone who rode straps for many years and now the step on system for five seasons, I have had less binding failures in step ons than traditional bindings. There are still failure points, but there is less of them.

Most of my strap failures were busted ladders, backed out screws (partially fault for not checking to re-tighten probably), ripped off straps, busted baseplates, etc.

I have had one failure in step ons in five seasons (probably ~300 days) and it was a ripped off Genesis hammock back (which didn't stop me from riding for the day). It looks like they fixed this obvious failure point the new EST binding, but it hasn't trickled down to the standard Genesis yet. It's a stupid design IMO.

My riding partner with probably 450 days in the same five season had zero failures. Small sample size, but there you go.

Could you tell us something about step on setup in the step on thread. Things like if you can make the step ons feel looser in some way or what advantages you find… or if they make your riding change… a little review would be welcome

Bought the new Sickstick. Been thinking about getting one for years. It’s surprisingly soft. I’d say the same as my old First Call. Definitely softer than the Horizon.

The HPS Fish is right at the top of my want list. Tried to scoop one last season but missed out.

Bought the new Sickstick. Been thinking about getting one for years. It’s surprisingly soft. I’d say the same as my old First Call. Definitely softer than the Horizon.

Also, my sickstick 151 is one of my favorite boards and my all around go-to. Though Mine is bamboo topsheet so idk how that differs from the more current iteration.

I have the hps fish from two seasons ago. The sidewalls are quite worn by now. They dont like aggressive snow at all

I used to own the First Call 151. I really liked it but sold it and got the Tur Bubo instead. I suspect your older Sickstick is stiffer than the new one. Just by hand flexing this new Sickstick makes me think it's more like the discontinued First Call in stiffness.

Comparing the end of the sidecut on the Horizon, Sickstick and Pluv, you can see that it's much more abrupt on the Horizon. I think that makes it much less easy going when just sliding around the slopes.

Depends on what you want in your daily... It's not a bad board and it could probably be an only board for me. However, after riding it and the Pluv, I experienced the Pluv more easy going even if the Horizon is softer.

The Horizon isn't soft enough to be a play around board for me and the tail is too catchy. Im just too noobish riding freestyle. I want a bit more rocker and lift in the nose and tail and I realized I wanted a softer ride for this.
