I'm just tuning in here, but.. there are people who think photons are stiff?
Apparently, since Burton made an entirely new version called the Photon Soft haha.

I don't think anyone really thinks the photon is stiff. That being said, the photon step on is quite a bit stiffer/responsive than the standard photon but that's mostly because of the step on system.

I have no real insight into the boot, I just know that when I tried them on a couple years ago, I would not have called them stiff. Anyway - despite having no interest beyond straps - stepon does potentially make sense for someone like myself who really appreciates edge control and so on. I would be really curious to try them, but that's a tough deal around here.

I listened to the Billy Anderson bumhole podcast and through my tears listening to him talk about his brother, I was able to glean he's a big fan of them and rides em (despite burton shitcanning him after he moved cross country to work for them) so... thats something.

That whole podcast is well worth the listen. Might be the only one I've made it all the way through since hatchett.

Same, curious more so from all the positive feedback about the responsiveness and performance. Curious to try one at some point, though no immediate rush cos still enjoy my Cartel X.

Well, if anyone wants to try them, I bought 4 pair of the large SO bindings and 2 pair of 11w Step On Photons from Burton’s used site. Happy to send them out to the EZ bros to demo if they fit you. They still have lots of sizes in the Photon and Photon wide for $92, too.

I've got a pair of size 11 Judge SO's & L bindings, which I enjoy riding occasionally, but not as much as my Union quiver, so probably looking to move them this season.
would also be willing to send them out for folks to try if they fit.
midwest is best

I typically watch all bombholes in full, but occasionally one slips that I'm not really interested in. I haven't approached the BA episode because I've been busy with other stuff, and I want to do it when I have the time. I don't know anything about his brother story, but that has potential to hit home, so...

Mark Fawcett daily drives step ons for all of the same reasons I listed (and he explains in some of the tribute lounge videos).

He rides Burton Photon Step Ons with Genesis Step On bindings and has for the last five seasons.

One more reason I love step ons... No floppy bits when I'm walking to the lift. I've actually had less binding failures with step ons than any of my strap bindings. I think it's just because they are less complicated. Less moving parts.

Step ons are great when you have kids and have to strap in and out on flats and lift lines. Too bad they don’t fit wide feet or have double boas etc.
