United Shapes
Re: United Shapes
I have two OG GP87 US decks, 159 Deep Reach and 162 Covert…big fan. The Deep Reach has been my only resort solid for several years, but I’m ready to try a new shape with less taper for all mountain resort riding and save the DR for deeper pow days. I don’t love the softer flexing nose on the GP87 boards.
Thoughts on deciding between the 159 Horizon, 158 or 162 Cadet? The Covert is my longest ever snowboard deck and I prefer it to the DR (added tail length, bit stiffer flex), but I wonder if a Cadet might be too similar. Most of my riding/splitting is resort & side country in Utah & Tahoe.
I’m 6’2”, 190lbs. Demo’d a Jones Hovercraft several years ago (hated it), previously rode Libs (TRS was great) and several Snapita BSOD’s before that. Other boards I’m considering: Capita Mega Death, Cardiff Crane Enduro.

Re: United Shapes
Cadet all day. I don't see a question on going with the 62.
I still want one, but my trade fell through.
However, if you want more of a traditional twin feel, you'd have to go with the horizon.

Re: United Shapes
I'm with Spencer, Cadet for sure. I picked up a 159 Horizon at the end of the season but haven't ridden it yet so I can't speak to that. But with a half dozen days in all conditions on my Cadet, I would say it's probably my all-time favorite ride-everything in all types of terrain deck. Not a park board, but it really excels at everything else and is just such a joy to turn. I'm 5' 10" 185 on the 158 and I feel like it's perfect for me here in the east. I would think the 162 would be perfect for you (I'd have a 162 as well if I lived out west and spent more time in bigger terrain).

Re: United Shapes
i’d say go Cadet to have a similar feel for your resort board to your split.
Re: United Shapes
All great points thanks. Will look for a Cadet on sale, still curious about the Cardiff Crane also!
Re: United Shapes
Having ridden both the Horizon and the Cadet I'd echo what has been said above. I have the Horizon 159 and at 6' and 165lbs
it's an all mountain freestyle board for me. Its the largest size they make and would just be too soft for you unless you want it as a freestyle board.

Re: United Shapes
Found a great deal at a board shop in Canada. Cadet 162 incoming…
Re: United Shapes
not that my opinion has an extra weight, but of all the boards I've owned, the Cadet is in my top 3, the past 1.5 seasons it's my go-to. I only need to travel with that board now, no need to pack anything else

Re: United Shapes
Same here on the Cadet, top 3-5 for me for sure. I'm heading to CO this season and hoping to get with Steamboat Powdercats at some point during the trip. I'm thinking of just bringing the Cadet, which on my 7 days or so seems to work really well in almost any conditons.
Re: United Shapes
Will be doing more resort riding in Tahoe this year and plan to run the Cadet through its paces there. Considering I ran the Deep Reach as my exclusive resort board for many years, I have high hopes. Deep Reach will probably only come out on the deepest powder days now.
Are most of you running the Cadet at reference stance? That’s where I set the DR all these years (never used the “deep days” insert packs, no need).
