The shop took my Nidecker Rift in for warranty without a problem, most likely I'll get store credit which is not much use for boots as they only have Burton (don't fit my feet) and Nidecker which I am obviously a bit wary of now. All this means I am back to square one with boots. I've tried a few Vans but they just seem wrong for my feet. Ride Fuse from 2019 was amazing but then they changed the heel lock boa to a convoluted harness thing and the hardware wrecked my ankles. I've been looking at Salomon, which I have never tried. Echo and Dialogue lace version both look good but I have no idea how they fit. Anyone ride Salomon boots?

Somewhere buried in this thread are my initial thoughts of the new Dialogue Boa. They redesigned them for this season and I thought they fit great. Slightly larger volume than the same size in the Rifts that I tried. A little bit wider overall in the toebox, but still a decently narrow heel. I really liked the way they fit and am considering them for my next boot now since your Rifts fell apart.

Thanks, how is the flex? The Rifts were the softest boots I've owned and I'd probably go a bit stiffer next time, for longevity more than anything else.

Can't say I recommend Salomon for durability. I just had to return a pair of Malamutes because a part of the boot that holds the lacing system popped out after 16 days on snow with them. Also, the metal foil inside the boots had started to peel off. No big deal, but speaks to overall construction of the boot. Check a few pages earlier on this thread, I made a post about it.

They also might not fit you very well. Burtons are a good fit for me, and so were the Salomons, so I'd argue they fit similarly. From trying boots last year, I found the K2 line fits similar to Ride; and Vans and Thirtytwo don't fit me, so maybe they'll fit you, lol.

Good luck in your search. We're in the same place for boots: got store credit for a bad pair, need new ones, and don't know exactly which direction to go xD

Biggest problem with vans is the mega thick footbeds if you prefer to use aftermarket insoles

I didn't actually ride them, but they felt stiffer walking around in them compared to the Rifts. Not sure how the flex holds up, though.

This might be a good thing for me as Vans kind of crushed the top of my foot. With my usual insoles there would be more space.

Has not really been my experience. The original insoles in my Vans Verse were pretty thin and floppy, not noticeably thicker than the ones from my Burton Ions. Replaced both with pretty thick after-market insoles (5 or 6mm Remind for the Verse and 5mm Sole for the Ions) without issues.

Sorry for delayed response on this. Not a huge fan of these. Used them for 2-3 years with a previous pair of Ions and I did not like what they did to the toeside response - felt a real delay and reduction in precision as the my shins compressed into the extra layers of foam.
Having a very low volume foot shape (including super low instep) and after extensively working with a boot fitter, I found the better way to take out volumes is from the bottom through thicker footbeds inside the liners plus shims and/or heel wedges below the liner. Had some concerns about losing board feel but for me those proved unfounded (especially with the Ions which have a very thin and firm, almost 'zero drop' mid- and outsole construction).
