THANK YOU!!!

Slightly heartbroken that the Navy-ish Cyclic jacket is actually just a badly lit photo of Deep Emerald (that picture of it with the "matching" pant is crazy), but at least Burton's current sale is still going and I can pivot to something else.
I saw the deep emerald cyclic IRL and it's really nice. Personal taste obviously.

No it still exists, but it says GUIDE in huge letters across the back. Sani Alibabic is wearing a black one in that Red Bull Schnitzel Video.
That’s an old jacket. Was like 3 years ago when it had that on it.

I was told by people at Burton that it’s basically done for. Masa Takeuchi told a friend that was riding with him in February at his cat operation that it’s done as well, supposedly there’s a tiny bit of carry over that will be sold in China next season, but AK457 is done according to multiple people and I’ve not seen it in any catalogs for any market at all.

I’d love to be wrong, trust me.
So apparantly all PFAS fabrics have to be out by 2025.

goreTex as it exists now, is basically donezo? Many or most waterproofing + breathability systems brands use, as they are now, donezo. Many DWR coatings donezo.

This is why the high end shit is cut, tho... eh? Cuz they're not going to be able ot make it anymore.

Hot topic in our new city. Apparently Chemours (DuPont) was (is?) leaking PFAS into the Cape Fear River (our drinking water source) for decades. Crazy high concentrations of cancer all over the counties where that Chemours facility upstream is. I think Gore-Tex is going through the same shit with their facility up north... it seems like nobody can produce anything related to PFAS without leaking it into people's water sources.

The local water district put in huge charcoal filtration systems and is suing Chemours, but it certainly makes me rethink eating any fish I catch in the intercoastal...

No hate if that's your style, but it's a little disappointing when it seems like that's all that is being offered, especially for the upcoming season. Speaking from the perspective of a taller rider, not a very good look.
Yes, it's idiotic. There's lots of clips of Cannon Cummins riding in a super short (gore tex lol) jacket in pow with his lower back completely exposed.

i'm in tokyo right now and have talked to few people in the last few days who have said this season was the last for ak457, things are very evident that B has been changing post-jake. i've been on the hunt for 457 but all sold out across town lol
there's still like 50 back country focused items. Freebird, Hover, Tusk, Kaluasi sp? plus two new lines next year ( Tuvak, Acamar)

They all have work arounds. nothing is "donezo" plus 95% of the world doesn't care.

Its my understanding that PFAS are banned as of 2025, and most all of the waterproof tech uses them now and there's not a equal quality waterproof fabric that can be made without them at this time. Whether or not Gore or whatever is made elsewhere (it's my understanding that gore was made in the us and that was part of maintaining the grip on the tech and money) I can't say, but it wont be made stateside...at least without changing the product and then certainly, optically, it seems like brands are or will soon be distancing themselves from these things. So, donezo as far as they exist now, seemingly possible.

Does anyone know if "Dusty Blue" in 24/25 Burton (as seen in the Korean link above) is the same as "Moonrise" from 23/24 this season? They look similar enough but I wonder if that's just the translation or if they're 2 entirely different colors

It’s quite the conundrum. The thing that makes them “forever chemicals” is why they’re so waterproof. I read an article somewhere that said anything else is going to require frequent washing and treatment to even get close to the waterproof levels we’re used to. I’d say it’s probably a good idea to stock up on your favorite Gore stuff like @pow_hnd did.

Gore is 99% marketing. There are plenty of credible videos on youtube that clearly show equivalent performance (lab wise) with all matters of membranes and constructions. (Neoshell, some Schoeller fabrics etc). I'm not worried.
