A Thread For Goggles

Post by Spenser »

This popped up on my IG and again inspired the revival of a standard/classic EL thread. 3D printed personalized fit goggles.. here we are

https://www.smithoptics.com/p/goggle/IO ... GGLES.html

Most of you know I’m a longtime diehard airgoggle fan, but finally gave in to modern lenses in the form of the Smith squad XL last season. Love the fit, simplicity, frame flexibility, and the lenses. I use the storm rose flash a lot here in the northwest of the northwest, and also the photochromic red.

If AB brings in a better lens, I’ll be back on those, though. My main gripe is the outer coating doesn’t last as long as you’d hope, given we do a lot of wet wiping around here.

i’m all in on the magnetic train.

anon. Sync’s are it for me, bigger but not the biggest, and i will be using mfi until they turn off magnets.

(but i would run back to AB goggles in a heartbeat if they licensed mfi and got some of those open-mold m3 frames)
midwest is best

Anon Magna-Tech and MFI for life. Complete game changer in every single fucking aspect. I’ve converted many people and they never go back. Lenses are so easy to change and last so much longer as you don’t have to worry about fucking them up changing them since they just pop into place, no bent tabs, no tweaked lens/goggle lips. A perfect, easy fit and change every time.

I get how rad they are, but I have zero interest in magnets, and have never messed up a lens with traditional swapping, but I rarely change them, at least not on the fly. I simply have no use for them. One lens per day here. I’m also cheap/poor. Also not into the sealed face mask part, personally. Really, I like as simple a goggle as possible - some might call them archaic - but I do like the newer lenses (not referring to attachment style)

The squad lens connection is somewhat strange, but still very easy once you see the best way to do it

I like the magnets and I change lenses all the time. Clear to full sun but I use the everyday green and the storm rose the most. All my Smith IO mag xl lenses have cracks in the plastic from living in an inside pocket but still work fine.

Switched from Squad XLs (left) to Squad Mags (right) for the season. Really digging the ever-so-slightly smaller fit than the XLs (even though they're still on the larger end) because they fit better when I wear my helmet. Changing lenses on the XLs is a pain, but I've had worse (Dragon PXV2 comes to mind). I tried some Anon Syncs for a season; they looked decent and the lens change system was rad, but they sat so far off my face compared to the Squads. I really love how low profile/close to the face the Squad series is.

Close to the face is a must for me. That’s the most instantaneous reason I won’t even consider most models.

Same here. I measured and my Squad XLs sit nearly half the distance from my face as my Syncs. On days I wore a helmet with the Syncs, they looked especially goofy. Spy is notoriously bad about this, too.

The only little drawback that keeps me away from buying anon magnetic googles is the fear to lose the lens.....maybe it's stupid idea , I admit I had never seen one in person so I don't know how the tech is , but the first idea when they released that tech was this and I still have it in my head .

I don't know if you guys know that

https://techgameworld.com/out-of-electr ... he-future/

the price is really over what I will spend on a pair of new googles but the tech and the idea is really good , you don't need to change lens ....actually I think you just can't change lens , maybe , to me , it's the only "negative" thing that comes to my mind.
