Lol this Reddit thread is incredible. Dude has 15 powder boards, apparently 200+ deep quiver-- up from 2 in 2021 --and is asking fucking Reddit what he should bring to Tahoe during a storm that will basically shut down the region for 3-4 days. Spectacular example of the kook with more money and ego than skills or experience.

having said that, I'm trying to decide what to bring to JH with me, I figure it's the same approach as what I do for snowbird
probably my 154 Cadet
and either the 159 Cafe Racer - or - 158 Peregrine

a big storm is forecasted but it's steep enough there I can prob forgo a powder board for this trip

Yep. Same. Anyone I know with THAT many boards is more collector than anything else. I know at least 2 guys in person who are north of 50, then probably a bunch of DMQ / ST acquintances.

This guy amassed those boards in the past 2 years... and the tenor of his recent posts suggests he probably started riding around then.

Yea, and I think that's fine. You got the experience to know what's your baseline board, and maybe 1 or 2 others you want to confer with. And you're intuiting based on past experience what you need given the resort and projected snowfall.

And even if you pick "wrong", you'll be fine. So you probably ain't stressing over it.

This guy apparently cannot do that and is asking random internet strangers for advice lmao. I can't tell if just bragging or are insanely low on the self-awareness scale lol.

Only ridden the 203, but I'd expect the 173 to ride pretty normal on edge except with insane float. It doesn't have THAT much edge-- running length is less than a 159 Banker.

I wish they still made the 183. The 203 was dope as hell, but just too long to navigate in my basement and toss in the back of my Forester, much less flying with it. I can make a 183 work though.

I have ridden and owned 173. For me at 100kg+(I think) when I had the 173. it was a wet noodle. Rode like a 158ish jib board with huge nose and tail. Bit too narrow even with 27mp Adidas boots, Was way too heavy for it. Sold it after a day or so riding in slush.

Can't remember if it was officially stated by someone at nitro, but it's basically a 159 all mountain type of board with added tip and tail, which is why so many people get along with it & are surprised, after they see the listed length. So if you would normally like an all-around board in a 59-ish size, don't need something too stiff, and want a major boost in float, it's probably a good choice. But if you're looking for an actual gun, I'd look at something else

yeah i dont think i need it around these parts where i live but next seasons japan trip it might work out.

Have you seen the trees in Japan? You don't want a big ass boat in Japan like that. You want something shorter with mad float that is nimble in the trees.

I have seen people get on decks like that here in Utah, which has similar tress to Japan and hate life because they just don't turn quickly enough and it tires them out.

I'm not saying go "short wide" but a proper pow deck, in a wide version, with a butt load of taper will be far more user friendly.
